My Knight, My Fairytale!

Once upon a time, not so very long ago, I stumbled upon a man whose personality made me want to know him. His smiling eyes, his sense of humour, his gentleness, his love of nature, adventure & our similar tastes in books & the depth of conversation. And of course, his curly hair, perfect body and his gorgeous accent!

We met in Sevenoaks, Kent on the 15th of May 2006, both doing the training course to take care of people with Spinal Injuries. We were designated to the same flat for the duration of the the training course, along with four other wonderful people. I soon discovered that I had a lot in common with this man, whilst being very different people & by day three the two of us were cooking dinner together. It took encouragement and a bit of prying from a housemate to convince me that the attraction was indeed reciprocated. After this followed moments of catching Steven's eye by accident, which resulted in blushing, stammering and butterflies! I felt like a teenager, a school girl! It was somehow different to before! I was quite happy to hear that we could stay in our apartments until we got placed on our first assignments, which took more than a week after our training was completed.

The following week was spent in each others company almost every minute of the day: chatting, cooking, going to the park, making trips into london, downloading music, reading, sharing poetry and tales of pasts & desires for future as well as deep dark secrets that have seldom, if ever, been unburied before. All the time this feeling of complete & utter acceptance, understanding, trust, love and a desire to know more of this man just grew and grew.

I told him things I don't tell people and I made a decision to open my heart, because it felt safe with him, and not let the rules of society influence the way I felt. Feelings developed fast. It was not 2 weeks from when we first met, when I realised that I was in fact in love with this man. "Impossible!" some of you might say. "You're a crazy woman!" some of you may think. Do you know the beauty of this situation? For the first time in my life it doesn't matter what you think, and whilst I know that critisicsm and judgement is inevitable, I also know that you who truly know me know that I am a crazy woman, but also that this is what I want, and you love me all the same! Some of you will be saying: " I've heard this all before". All I can say to that is, I know you have. I have certainly loved before.

I find it difficult to speak about Mikey right now, but I know there will be mixed feelings from his friends and family, and I just want you to know that he is within me, always, and I look forward to sharing that part of me with Steven.

Well, the most important part of this fairytale may come as a shock to some but with much happiness to me! My visa ends at the end of October and since I do not want to leave the UK or any of my amazing friends and now....my knight, Steven Mackay, I have been seriously looking into visa options and ways to stay. It has been dissapointing and rather frightening, since I have no qualifications or sponsorship. On Sunday the 18th of June, just a month after we met Steven proposed to me.

Needless to say, under normal circumstances we would not be getting married so soon, but I do not percieve our marriage as a marriage of convenience. Whilst it is making my life a lot easier with regards to my visa, there's definitely a whole lot more then convenience there! I want to be with him, he wants to be with me...it's pretty simple really! We are moving to Falmouth in Cornwall at the end of this month and will probably get married within the next couple of months, where we are going to continue with care work locally, just not in a live-in situation. Click here to see where Falmouth is, here for an aerial view of the town, here for info on Falmouth and here for info on getting to and around Cornwall by bus.

Steven is 27. He's from Nuneaton in the Midlands, he has a twin sister Donna and two younger sisters, Emma and Sonya. I'm going to meet his parents and siblings on the 17th of this month, which is a tiny bit scary but also rather exciting! We will spend a few days in the Midlands before our move to Cornwall.

I am looking forward to a life of exploring you and exploring with you Steven, my fiance. I love you.

My beautiful friend and soul sister Cat wrote a story you should read. Click here. For clarity, Cat is Orangeblossom Brandybuck, Jo is Dimple Boffin, I am Lobelia Grubb and Steven is Mungo. Those are our hobbit names. ;-) Enjoy

Love, light and fairy dust

Hey Sharon, thats great news. Coming from the same background as you I totaly understand how you are feeling. Thats what happened with me when I met Julie. I knew after a couple of weeks that was it. That was 22 years ago and the feelings are just the same.

If you are ever in the Nuneaton area, please give us a call, we live in Coventry which is about an 8 mile trip. Falmouth is a great place to live and I wish you all the best in the world as your life starts a whole new chapter with a new family to support you.
